The Story Behind Vortex Screw
Vortex Screw began as a solution to a problem I was seeing daily clinically and in the lab.
While working in the eventings at LA Dental Implant Lab, I spent countless hours in CAD designing full-arch restorations and reviewing cases before final delivery. Over time, patterns started to emerge, I consistently saw issues with screw retention, cases of loosening, and long-term failures such as cracked arches and debonded Ti-bases. These weren’t isolated incidents—they were recurring challenges affecting outcomes for both clinicians and patients.
At first, it was just something I noted. Then it became a conversation.
Week after week, our lab team and I would sit down and ask the same question:
How can we improve screw retention and long-term stability in full-arch restorations?
We realized that solving this problem wasn’t just about making a better screw—it required a complete system. It meant rethinking design geometry, improving milling strategies, and building a comprehensive design library capable of addressing the wide range of clinical situations dentists face every day.
I originally created the Vortex™ Screw for myself—to use in my own cases, to solve my own frustrations. But as I began implementing it in practice, the difference was impressive. The design improved engagement, reduced loosening, and provided a level of confidence I hadn’t experienced before.
Then something unexpected happened.
Colleagues started noticing. Friends and fellow clinicians began asking for screws to use in their own cases. What started as a personal solution quickly grew into something much bigger. Demand spread organically — dentist-to-dentist, then lab-to-lab.
One of the core ideas behind Vortex™ was engineered simplicity and brand recognition. I wanted a screw that was not only high-performing, but also instantly identifiable. If a patient moved across the country and another dentist uncovered their restoration, they would immediately recognize it as a Vortex™ Screw—with a T5 driver—making maintenance and problem-solving straightforward and stress-free.
What began as a passion project to create something relevant to give back to a profession that has given so much to me, my family, and my career—has grown into something I never anticipated. With the support of talented engineers, we refined the design, developed precise manufacturing processes, and brought the product to life in many countries.
Today, Vortex™ is an FDA-compliant manufacturer with ISO certification, and we continue to push forward—developing new solutions to advance digital full-arch dentistry.
Looking back, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact Vortex™ Screw has had within our profession. What started as a simple idea—to solve a real problem—has evolved into a movement toward better outcomes, better reliability, and better care for patients everywhere.
And we’re just getting started.
